Por espíritu crisol entendemos todas las ideas y conceptos base que nos han llevado a organizar un encuentro o curso de estas características y la pasión por la música es el principal.

Quien no esté familiarizado con el término fiddle debe saber que no se trata de un instrumento diferente al violín en cuanto a forma se refiere pero sí en cuanto a lenguaje musical. Es una manera de comprender las posibilidades de expresión de nuestro instrumento diferente a la típica y se puede extrapolar a cualquier instrumento. No es simplemente tocar el violín folk, es hablar con el alma a través de él, independientemente del estilo musical.

Nuestro objetivo es realizar un curso en el que todo el mundo pueda aprender a amar la música por encima de todo y rechace la competitividad implícita que muchas veces conlleva el aprendizaje y dominio de un instrumento.

En el curso habrá niveles de aprendizaje sí, pero todo el mundo interactuará entre si, sea principiante o profesional y nunca supondrán una barrera entre las personas porque la música, es mucho más que eso.

El alma máter de este curso es Alasdair Fraser, uno de los mejores violinistas del mundo folk de hoy en día y un didacta dedicado y motivador, que lleva más de veinte años dirigiendo proyectos similares en su Escocia natal (Sabhal Mòr Ostaig) y California (Valley of the Moon Fiddle Camp y Sierra Fiddle Camp). Contamos también con Natalie Haas, una joven violonchelista que sorprende por su frescura, creatividad y gusto. Natalie lleva más de tres años acompañando en gira a Alasdair y enseñando en los cursos mencionados antes. Sus clases tienen cada vez más adeptos y se puede decir que es la “cabecilla” de un movimiento que está sacando al violonchelo del encorsetamiento orquestal y llevándolo a un terreno en que el acompañamiento rítmico y armónico son protagonistas.

Ya que la música no tiene fronteras, hemos querido invitar a músicos de otros lugares para que nos muestren su tradición y su buen modo de hacer y así obtener un aprendizaje más amplio al término del curso. Para ello contamos con la presencia de Diego Galaz, que nos enseñara cómo improvisar con nuestro fiddle, Juan Arriola y Begoña Riobó quienes nos mostrarán diferentes lenguajes del fiddle que hay en nuestra Península, en especial del País Vasco y Galicia, Jaime Muñoz y su maestría con diferentes instrumentos de viento, en especial la flauta travesera, Gema Rizo y su incansable energía al baile y como novedad en esta edición, Xosé Liz y su versatilidad al bouzouki y guitarra. Queremos agradecerles desde aquí, tanto a los veteranos como a los nuevos su presencia y su confianza en el proyecto.

LAS CLASES

Las clases se impartirán por la mañana y a primera hora de la tarde. Es importante recalcar que las melodías se aprenderán de oído y que los niveles se establecen respecto a la capacidad de los músicos para ello. Por supuesto, no hay ninguna prueba de nivel y los músicos son libres de quedarse en el nivel que crean más adecuado para ellos. Sólo un pequeño inciso, os aconsejamos que traigáis una grabadora para las clases, cuando el curso acabe os será de mucha utilidad. En esta edición 2011 habrá además sorpresas ya que la estructura de las clases quizá varíe algo y se realizarán además más clases tipo ensemble.

Por la tarde se llevarán a cabo los talleres y actividades relacionadas con la música, que haya programados, a los que puede asistir quien lo desee y, después de cenar, se invita a todos los participantes a realizar sesiones musicales abiertas, para lo que habilitaremos un espacio.

En síntesis queremos que sea una semana en la que los participantes disfruten tocando, aprendan, sean totalmente libres para expresarse y creativos a través de su instrumento, se olviden de complejos, y sobretodo, se diviertan.

Sin duda será una experiencia inolvidable. No te la pierdas.

The spirit of Crisol is an embodiment of all the ideas and concepts that pushed us to organize a camp with the characteristics that follow. The first and most important is a passion for music.

To those not familiar with the term fiddle, what makes the fiddle different from the violin is not the shape of the instrument itself, but the musical language one chooses to speak with it. We will explore the possibilities of expression on the violin that are different from the typical ways in which we are used to hearing it (this philosophy can be applied to every instrument). The goal is not to play folk music on the violin, it is to speak the language of the soul with it, no matter what the musical style.

Our goal is to have a course in which everybody can delight in their mutual love for music and reject the implicit competitiveness that sometimes exists when learning an instrument.

We will have different levels of learning available, but everyone will interact, no matter whether they are a beginner or an advanced player – we don’t believe in boundaries!

Alasdair Fraser is the director of the course; he is one of the best fiddlers of today’s folk music scene and a motivating teacher who directs similar projects in Scotland (Sabhal Mòr Ostaig) and California (Valley of the Moon Fiddle Camp and Sierra Fiddle Camp). Our cello teacher is Natalie Haas, a young and vibrant cellist who has a great sense of creativity. Natalie has been touring with Alasdair for more than 5 years now and she also teaches at the above-mentioned courses. Her lessons are more and more popular each time, and she is helping to release the cello from its classical structures and bring it to a new sphere, treating it as a principally chordal and rhythmic instrument.

Music transcends borders. We will invite musicians from different traditions to teach us about different languages and ways of playing so that we will have a full and complete learning experience by the end of the course. For that purpose, we will also have Diego Galaz on fiddle, who will teach us how to improvise with our fiddle, Juan Arriola and Begoña Riobó on fiddle too; they will teach us about the different traditions with the fiddle in the Iberian Peninsula; Jaime Muñoz and his “know-how” with wind instruments, specially with Traverse Flute, Gema Rizo and her endless energy on dancing and what's innovative in this edition is the pleasure of having Xosé Liz and his versatility on guitar and bouzouki. LESSONS

Lessons will be held during the morning and afternoon. It is important to emphasize that tunes will be taught by ear and that levels are established according to that ability. No auditions are required.

Musicians will be free to change levels or to stay in the level they think is most appropriate for them.

You should bring with you a recorder for the lessons. It will be really useful once the course finishes. In this 2011 edition may be surprises and the schedule of the camp may vary a bit, for example, we’ll have more ensemble lessons.

In the evening, scheduled workshops and musical activities will take place. After dinner, everybody is invited to a jam session. We will have a special space for that.

In short, we want to have a week in which participants are able to play, learn, freely express themselves, be creative through their instrument, forget their fears, and over all, have fun.

This will be an unforgettable experience.
